Historic Snowstorm Hits New Orleans and Gulf Coast, Breaking Records

A rare winter storm has blanketed New Orleans and other parts of South Louisiana with record-breaking snowfall, reaching 10 inches in some areas. With arctic air in place, the unprecedented weather event has closed down major roads, including a 100-mile stretch of I-10, and prompted blizzard warnings for the first time ever in some regions. Schools in Baton Rouge and Lafayette Parish will remain closed due to hazardous conditions, while residents across the area have been enjoying a snow day with sledding and snowball fights. Despite the fun, officials warn that the heavy snowfall could leave residents homebound for several days. Power outages and significant road closures have been reported as many prepare for ongoing impacts from the storm.
