US Intensifies Crackdown on Fuel Shipments to Cuba
The U.S. government has seized nearly $3 million worth of fuel shipments bound for Cuba in a series of operations aimed at tightening the ongoing energy blockade. More than 600,000 gallons of fuel, primarily biodiesel, were intercepted at various ports, including Port Everglades and the Port of Houston. In total, 90 shipments headed to the sanctioned island have been disrupted, with federal officials citing violations of export laws. The Coast Guard has also reported intercepting vessels transporting illicit oil to Cuba, furthering the crackdown on unauthorized fuel movements. In response, Cuban officials have condemned these actions as piracy and have accused the U.S. of pressuring other nations to comply with its sanctions.
