China Announces Zero-Tariff Deal to Boost Trade with Africa

In a significant move to enhance trade relations, China has announced a comprehensive zero-tariff deal for nearly all goods from 53 African countries, excluding Eswatini. This initiative comes in the wake of rising tariffs imposed by the US, with both China and Africa urging the US to resolve trade tensions through equitable discussions. The deal aims to deepen economic ties, with a notable focus on infrastructure development, agriculture, and investment opportunities. High-level meetings, including the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha, signal a commitment to implement outcomes from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and strengthen partnerships across the continent. Countries such as Mozambique and Zimbabwe have expressed readiness to attract more Chinese investments, while Ethiopia and Djibouti have pledged to deepen cooperation within the FOCAC framework.
