In a swift reaction to backlash over potential misinformation, Google has retracted its newly launched AI image generation feature in Google Earth, just 24 hours after its introduction. The tool, which allowed users to create fabricated satellite images of any location, drew immediate criticism as users quickly exploited it to depict fake disasters and military strikes. Despite adding the feature as part of a significant upgrade, Google decided to remove it amidst fears of misuse and the spread of deepfakes. Additionally, concerns surrounding another playful feature, ‘Nano Banana,’ have also led to its suspension, highlighting the challenges tech companies face when launching innovative yet potentially harmful tools.
