Winter Weather Warning Issued for North Carolina
A significant cold front is moving through the Carolinas, bringing frigid temperatures and a wintry mix of rain and possible snow. Starting January 5, Western North Carolina will experience rain and potential freezing rain, while the Piedmont region is forecasted to see a cold Saturday followed by rain and icy conditions on Sunday. The NCDOT is prepared to assist with road conditions as snow and chilling temperatures are expected across the state, particularly in mountainous areas. Alerts have been issued for a possible icy mix, with the central NC Triangle facing chances of light snow. As temperatures drop, residents are advised to bundle up and stay weather aware through the weekend and into next week.
