Hawaii Faces Severe Flooding and Power Outages Amid Kona Storm
Hawaii is currently grappling with devastating flooding and widespread power outages following a powerful Kona storm that has left thousands without electricity. As emergency crews work tirelessly to restore power, about 38,000 customers remained affected across the islands, with areas on Oahu’s North Shore and Maui facing significant challenges. Over 230 rescue operations have been conducted in response to the historic flooding, which has been described as the worst in more than two decades. Hawaiian Electric has implemented proactive power shutoffs to ensure safety amid the torrential rains, and restoration efforts are ongoing as the state shifts into recovery mode. However, many residents are frustrated as the wait for power continues, with reports of damaged infrastructure and ongoing safety assessments delaying the restoration process.
