U.S. Government Cancels Multiple Contracts with Moderna for Bird Flu Vaccine Development
The U.S. government has recently cancelled several contracts with Moderna aimed at developing a vaccine for bird flu and other pandemics. The Trump administration ended a $766 million contract and additional funding amounting to over $700 million due to concerns over mRNA technology and the effectiveness of the vaccine. This decision has raised alarms regarding biosecurity and vaccine development as Moderna had promising results in its trials. The Health and Human Services (HHS) department, influenced by vaccine skepticism, cited safety concerns as a primary reason for pulling funding, including a significant $590 million contract set for bird flu vaccine research.
