Major Egg Producers Settle Price-Fixing Allegations, Pledge to Donate Millions of Eggs
In response to a series of investigations, major egg producers have reached a multi-state settlement addressing allegations of price manipulation that artificially inflated egg prices. The companies involved will pay $3.3 million and donate 53 million eggs to various food banks across multiple states, including nearly 1 million eggs for Vermont and a significant contribution of 4.9 million eggs to New York food banks. The settlement comes after claims that these producers colluded to keep prices high for consumers, leading to increased grocery bills nationwide. States like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are also set to receive millions of eggs as part of this agreement, which highlights ongoing efforts by state attorneys general and the U.S. Department of Justice to hold corporations accountable for price-fixing practices.
