NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Addresses Tanking Concerns Amid Large Fines

In response to ongoing issues with teams deliberately losing games to secure better draft positions, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is exploring various remedies to combat rampant tanking. Recently, the league handed down significant fines: the Utah Jazz were penalized $500,000 for compromising the integrity of the game, while the Indiana Pacers received a $100,000 fine. Silver warned that the current state of tanking is worse than in recent years and acknowledged that the incentives for teams to tank remain misaligned. He is open to potential changes in the draft structure, including the possibility of abolishing the draft altogether and introducing rookie free agency as an alternative. Furthermore, Silver reiterated that every possible remedy is on the table in efforts to curb this issue, noting that teams sitting healthy players to lose games is detrimental to the league.
